Why subscribe to Mark Armstrong, Children’s Book Author?

This is a newsletter about one guy’s self-publishing journey. That guy is me, Mark Armstrong. I’m an illustrator and a writer. My specialty is humor. I’ve written a children’s book, and I’m going to self-publish it. I’m learning all the things I need to know to make that happen.

That includes technical stuff: What are the advantages and disadvantages of direct publishers like Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and Barnes & Noble Press? How much does it cost? How do I set a price? What’s the difference between bleed and trim size? How do I format the book? What kind of files do I submit?

At the same time, I’m trying to look ahead: How do I get the book into brick-and-mortar bookstores? How do I market it? How do I get it seen, how do I get people to review it and post those reviews online? How can I create some pre-publication buzz for the book?

Maybe a better question is: Who should subscribe to this newsletter? I’m thinking it might be you if you can answer YES to one or more of the following:

1. You like children’s books.

2. You like books, period.

3. You’ve written a book, or you have an idea for one.

4. You’d like to self-publish a book, but you’re not sure where to start.

5. You like to laugh.

6. You like art and illustrations.

7. You like humor that everyone can laugh at. Good clean silly stuff.

8. You like going behind the scenes and seeing how things come together.

9. You like posts where you can learn something and have fun doing it.

10. You like FREE subscriptions.

There’s a lot more to self-publishing than I thought. I’m learning a lot, and I’m happy to share it. Hope you’ll join me on the journey.
